This is a device for creating low-pressure xenon plasma toroids. By generating an oscillating, high-voltage radiofrequency magnetic field, xenon gas is wirelessly ionized into an inductively-coupled plasma.

Other enthusiasts have built similar toroid drivers, but mine has some special features:

• Sleek pcb-based design, including an integral primary drive inductor. No spirally coil!
• Pushbutton arc-start. No need for a external high-voltage zap!
• Adjustable onboard constant-current buck regulator.
• Designed for 65W USB-C.

The sky-guided plasma toroid is an open-source project. Full documentation, schematics, component lists, fabrication files, and more are available in the Codeberg repository.

What you'll get

This listing is for a plasma toroid driver kit, not a finished product. You'll need to obtain a suitable xenon globe, 3D print the support structure, hook up a power source, and do some minor mechanical assembly.

The following parts are included:

• Assembled main driver circuitboard
• Anodized aluminum heatsink
• 40mm x 20mm 12v cooling fan
• JST-PH power connector plug
• m2 thread-forming assembly screws (12 count)
• Instructions for assembly and operation

Some required parts are not included:

• A 1-liter / 13cm xenon globe. This globe must be filled to no more than 20 torr pressure. Higher pressure globes won't work. Ask your supplier before ordering!
• 3D printed support structure -- requires about 100 grams matte black PLA (or similar), printable area ≥ 190x190mm
• 20V / 3A USB-C power delivery "trigger" module. Mounting holes are designed for the Adafruit HUSB338 board, but other boards will work if glued to a printable adapter plate
• 65W (20V / 3A) USB-C power supply + USB-C power cable
• Alternately, a bench power supply capable of at least 3 amps at regulated 20V DC

• May need minor soldering for your usb power adapter
