This is the assembled PCB board used in the DumbbellMic microphone. It can be used as the basis for your own microphone design.
Why we made it available?
After posting the DumbbellMic project om Hackaday.io there were several requests for releasing the board. The design of the board is posted on Hackaday but it can be a hassle to source the components and get the PCB fabricated (not to mention the costs involved doing so for just one board). So I figured I do a small run for those who are interested in building their own DumbbellMic or device that needs a small microphone amplifier.
The design uses a low-noise operational amplifier from Texas Instruments with a wide bandwidth which produces a sound that is very full with all frequencies well balanced. Attached are two omnidirectional Electret Condenser Microphones with a frequency range of 20 ~ 20,000Hz. The board features a power saving circuit which senses the phantom power of the camera (or other capable device) and switches off the 9V power supply completely when not sensing a voltage from the camera (when the camera is switched off). There's also an indicator circuit which turns on a low current LED for a short time (indicating switch-on with a full battery) or long time indicating (warning for) an almost empty battery. The LED is included with the board.
