Poor support

For TinyFPGA BX

No reply to several emails sent regarding support.
Plus the documentation has not been fully updated to support the BX version.

Looks good so far

For TinyFPGA BX

When it arrived i ordered a breakout board kit so i can hook it up to breadboard and experiment with logisim's Verilog conversion, so i haven't done anything except a blinking light program yet. So far everything looks good with the board, the documentation is good, and the shipping speed was fast. Communication between the seller however is non-existent at the moment, and you will probably be on your own even on the forums. Didn't look at dimensions when i purchased it and was pleasantly surprised to find it much smaller than i expected. The FPGA on it is smaller than a pill!

I can not much tell about the TinyFPGA BX

For TinyFPGA BX

Not much to tell about the TinyFPGA BX because I do not have it in my hands now. I bought the TinyFPGA around Nov 24 with a discount. On Nov 26 I got the confirmation that the BX is on it's way to me. Great! Since Nov 29 the BX seems to be stuck at an USPS Facility. On Dec 6. I tried to reach out for the seller but got no answer till today. So I can not rate the Product (but I have to otherwise Tindie would not let me write a review) only the Shipping and Communication.

Googeling USPS and shipping international I found out that USPS sometimes stops updating the tracking information. So with customs added I might be able to update this review in one or two weeks.

Should be called EasyFPGA ;)

Never before had FPGA's been so cheap and easily used. The longest part of the whole setup was installing software for the FPGA, everything else was very fast and easy.

awesome tiny fpga

For TinyFPGA BX

This tiny FPGA fits easily on a breadboard and is ideal for prototyping. Nevertheless, the features of the iCE40 chip are everything else than tiny. I was blown away by the capability of this chip.
The open source icestorm is absolutely great and working with it is so much more comfortable than the gigabyte ISEs from XILINX, Lattice ....
Luke has created a nicely working environment and a really good awesome boot loader.

Wonderful product, well integrated with open source tools

For TinyFPGA BX

The TinyFPGA BX is exactly what I was hoping for in an FPGA platform. No bloat, a readily deployable module when paired with only the specific hardware your application needs. The software was trivial to setup in Linux, and was documented quite well. Additionally, Luke has been extremely helpful and quick to respond when people raise issues they are having on the forums for the product. I would wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone who wants a small, general purpose FPGA for personal projects. This product sits in the same product space that the old Digilent CMOD once occupied, but is easier to use, faster to deploy, and avoids the monstrous bloat associated with Xilinx tools.

It's Tiny. It's an FPGA. TinyFPGA is exactly what you expect

For TinyFPGA B2

As a newbie to the world of FPGA, this is a great introduction, but I think it'll also work out great for the more experienced FPGA engineers out there too. It's really well made, and being programmable via USB means that you don't need a complex programming set up. Luke gives great support too, although the documentation is good enough that you shouldn't need it.

The only issue I came up against was with the free licence for the Lattice IceCube2 software, although I appreciate that this is down to Lattice and therefore out of Lukes control. I did, however, get it working well with the Project IceStorm software, which was easier than expected. The IceStorm documentation is actually slightly easier to follow on the TinyFPGA website than on Clifford Wolfs own site.

Now I've got no excuse for not learning Verilog!

Hint: you can use this board not only with TinyFPGA but basically any FPGA board (e.g. iCEstick, Go Board) - just solder an adapter with TinyFPGA footprint.

Nice DIY project

For TinyFPGA Computer Project Board

Great selection of easy to solder components. Board makes TinyFPGA B2 board much more useful and opens new ways to use it, specially in computer emulation.
It took me about 30-45 min to prepare and solder all elements, just start with resistors and go to higher components.

Best IceStorm-compatible FPGA board

First of all, I was very surprised that the board was delivered to Russia in ~ 2 weeks (usually it takes 1-2 months).

It took some time to figure out how to use this board with IceStorm since the original tutorial uses Lattice iCEcube2. Fortunately there is a great community forum discourse.tinyfpga.com where Luke answered all my questions in no time. Eventually everything worked just fine. TWIMC you can find a complete "hello world" example with the explanation of some gotchas here [1].

I believe currently TinyFPGA B2 is the best IceStorm-compatible board in terms of price / quality ratio. Looking forward to release of the extension board with VGA port that was announced on the forum!

Best breadboard FPGA for fun projects

Board is compact and design is nice. Pins distributed with board are high quality, were easy to solder and start playing with. Unique idea of using FPGA to program itself, and boot loader source is also available on GitHub. Best of all, you can use full opensource stack for making designs, so excellent choice for makers. Can't wait breakout boards.

This board is for YOU!

The TinyFPGA B2 board is awesome. FPGAs are like the swiss army knife of the electronics world. It can do pretty much anything you can think of. The B2 board is a great way to get into the world of FPGAs. It has a very active community surrounding it that is more than welcome to lend a hand getting your project off the ground. The board itself has a huge set of IO and you even have access to the USB. No programmer is required. The best part? EVERY PIN IS A PWM PIN! Or a UART pin! or a SPI pin!! Its up to you what you make out of it. This particular board is amazing because it can be used with only open source tools, which is pretty rare for an FPGA board. Normally, you have to download the vendors software, but the icestorm project makes that unnecessary with the ICE40 chip on here. Check it out. You won't regret it.
