Poor mechanical design

For LILYGO® T-Embed ESP32-S3 Custom Control Panel

The mechanical design of the rotary encoder is too small for normal sized people.
It does come apart but it's as difficult as hand soldering SMDs to reassemble.
If you're very careful you might manage it. In my case a microscopic bit of plastic flipped off the bench and was lost.
Doesn't come with firmware loaded, so I'm wondering if they were tested at the factory.
Very disappointed in the product.

Shipping was quite slow.

Works well, v1.2 not 1.1, no OLED screen, no off switch

For LILYGO® TTGO T-Beam V1.2

The T-Beam works well as a tracker. Just note you must give it some time with a view of the sky to acquire a GPS lock, especially the first time it is powered up this may take 10 minutes or so.

The board I received was v1.2, not 1.1 as listed. Not an issue, but you need to know as firmware is version specific. As noted, this item doesn't come with the OLED screen; the product photo the includes a screen should probably be removed / updated. It's also a bit inconvenient that the board doesn't include an off switch; once I put in the 18650 it's not easy to stop it.

The github repos give adequate documentation. Shipped quickly and nicely packaged. Thanks!

No delivery update whatsoever

For LILYGO® TTGO T-PCIE ESP32-WROVER-B AXP192 Chip

I placed an order more than two weeks ago, and the only thing I'm receiving as a tracking number is a vague update saying it's shipped. That's it!

I contacted customer service a few times but didn't receive anything more than that. They don't even cancel my order.

How to connect to wifi ?

For LILYGO® T-Display-S3 ESP32-S3 1.9 inch ST7789 LCD

I could not find documentation to make the unit connect to my wifi.
Upon power up the unit scan for wifi and locates the wifi around including mine.
It then try to connect xinyuandianzi but times out.
The display refers to EspTouch app to connect to the network.
Where can I find step by step instructions to connect to my wifi ?

Handy little board for general DIY use

I bought one of these to kick around and then grabbed a half dozen more as they've quickly become my go-to for quick one-off ESP32 projects which might need some way to display status. Cheap and checks most of the boxes. The design is pretty simple and everything is documented on the GH repo.

This is a really nice dongle. Documentation is thin; there are examples on GitHub but getting the libraries configured to compile the examples is a bit tricky. But the small display is gorgeous and the form factor is great. Seller was awesome and I would definitely do business with again!

Great development board, excellent support!

I received my order relatively quickly, especially since it ships from China. The documentation is a little sparse, but I was able to get the examples working very quickly. I reached out to LilyGO for support, as none of the examples suited my needs (drawing procedural designs on the display using primitives: pixels, circles, rectangles, lines, etc). They replied promptly with excellent support. Thanks!

Clearly faulty in some way

For LILYGO® T-QT V1.1 ESP32-S3 GC9107 0.85 Inch LCD

Got the board quickly and well packed. Looks lovely. Excellent screen.

Now the issues; it disconnects from USB every 10 seconds or so, which makes it basically impossible to upload code, as it will disconnect by the time code is compiled. I've tried this with multiple USB C cables, C-to-C as well as A-to-C. I've tried it on a windows 10 machine as well as a new MacBook Pro. I'm using the newer Arduino IDE. I've also tried USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports to make sure that's eliminated.

I have managed to upload code to the device exactly once, and never again. My code was extremely simple, so I can't imagine that caused any issues.
I have no idea what to do next. Also, there's very little instructions as to what is the best way to start with the board; simple TFT related examples would be great!

A great innovation by Lilygo sadly with a lower quality EPD

For LILYGO® T5 4.7 Inch E-paper V2.3 ESP32-S3

Lilygo really pushed the boundaries of innovation with this one, making the initial idea of EPDiy component, work also in S3 with the new esp_lcd module.
Very grateful for that and this I consider a great work from their side.
Now on the lower side is that they used a lower quality flexible epaper screen. In my case 3 days of use lead to 2 complete dead rows in the middle. The older module with ESP32-WROVER had a better screen, that is already 2 years used and has no dead pixels or rows.
Update: Lilygo contacted me and send a new epaper display. Raised communication star after this.

This plus the fact that sending the framebuffer is at least double slow than that older version made me a bit sad about this module. The firmware part can be for sure improved sending a full frame instead of line-per-line, or at least to make it multi-threaded, and I have hope to make it faster. Other than that reducing the usable buttons to one instead of 3 was a bad choice, since before you could have at least left/right/select. Now one gpio only as a button and the other is boot enable and reset… but with the display issue I’m making a solution that might be a Tindie future product:
I’m designing an adapter that will connect to the Panasonic 40 pin and will end in in a 33 pin FPC connector so you can use this PCB as a controller for a 1200x825 ebook display panel.

Got 3, cannot get any to work

Have 3, tried 4 different usb-c cables and none of the devices power up or appear in PIO. It would be great to have a bit more detail on how to get them to power on or I have 3 duds.

Hello , sorry for the inconvenience,for now it supports USB2.0 (USBA-USBC) Protocol. could you try to use the cable of USB-A to USB-C check again ? We are further optimizing and upgrading it to USB3.0 to be compatible with type-C to type-C .

Nice T-Beam board for Helium Mapping. NO OLED Display!

For LILYGO® TTGO T-Beam V1.2

The TTGO T-Beam v1.1 is the best all-in-one board for Helium network Mapping.
I use this software build https://github.com/Max-Plastix/tbeam-helium-mapper and it runs perfectly on the T-Beam v1.1

This kit does NOT include the 0.96" OLED display that is commonly included with the LilyGo TTGO T-Beam! You must purchase and solder it on separately.

ESP32, LoRaWAN with antenna, GPS with antenna, Bluetooth, two user buttons and a reset, WiFi, 18650 battery holder & charger, all in one package.
The board has a nice AXP192 power manager on it for power control.
All in all, great value, but you can find them for a similar price with an OLED display included in the kit.

only one of two GPS devices worked properly.

I ordered two devices.
Fast delivery and service with tracking information - good.
The first device works as expected - the 2nd device though...

I spent some time playing around with the LilyGo.
Initially I had some trouble with the GPS which was fixed by the resetGPS sheet. (see attached screen shot)

When I tried to setup the LoRa communication with two devices, I found out that the 2nd device still did not recover the GPS through the reset GPS sheet.

I also flashed back the factory firmware with the esp32 flash tool - the GPS still does not work on the 2nd device.
I would like to replace or refund this 2nd device.
Could it be done together with a new order of two additional devices?

Lots of fun!

For LILYGO® TTGO VGA V1.4 Controller

I've only had it for a while and haven't gotten around to building anything with FabGL yet, but it's a great little product, and I've already gotten my money's worth from it from playing around with the various sketches available and investigating VIC-20 development.

If I were to make any improvements to it, it would be to space the connectors further apart to allow USB to PS/2 adaptors to be plugged in for the mouse and keyboard. Also, the default Space Invaders sketch could do with an update as the version preloaded onto it lacks sound, but the most recent version has sound. These are *very* minor quibbles though.

It was a bit late in arriving because it was stuck in Luxembourg for quite some time, but that's not the seller's fault and just something for buyers to be aware of.

Really impressive device

For LILYGO® T-WATCH-2020 V2 GPS IPS

Most IOT developer boards are bulky or only for porotype purpose. But this watch is really well built and can be used for daily usage.
Well done Lilygo team.

Tested : Touch, TFT, GPS, SDCard, BMA, Power/interrupts, RTC, WiFi. everything is working with no issue.

Observed small heating issue sometimes; not a major problem.

Apart from that, this is the best thing a developer could get for this price.

fun development board, but documentation is not complete!

Instructions aren't very clear. I would like to know how I can convert stock JPEG images and convert them to 4 bit monochrome images. It would also be nice to see every function of the library be better explained with some more examples.

Impressive device, does what it says

For LILYGO® TTGO T5 V2.3.1_2.13 Inch E-Paper

Arrived when they said it would; packed carefully (each one in its own little plastic case!).
Device itself is great so far, working as advertised.
I haven't tried the LiPo charge functionality, but I was momentarily irked to see the LiPo JST connector is a size smaller than all the batteries I own. BUT, they include a proper-sized JST pigtail for free, so I don't consider this a big problem...

This product uses a JST 2pin 1.25mm connector, which can also reduce the space of the product. Considering that everyone may have different battery model, we have matched the power cable to the connectors so you can use according to your needs.

Can we all just collectively pause for a second and realize that for TWENTY DOLLARS, you can have a device that fits on your wrist, and has WiFi, BLE, a battery, a well-featured accelerometer, a vibration motor, and a SCREEN?

Took a couple of nights of searching and reading other peoples' sketches to get comfortable with this, but...that's kindof the point? Love this thing. Currently working on writing some sketches to control all fo the smart devices on our property, but honestly the ESP32 basically means there isn't a limit to what I can do with it. Unlock the hackerspace? Turn on red alert on all the lights in the house? TELL THE TIME!?

Very cool, and look forward to more stuff like this. Seriously still blown away that it's this cheap for what it does. $20 is less than the price of a legit arduino uno.

I wish I could comment on other's reviews: to the people saying the battery is no good: you have to put it into deep sleep to conserve the battery.

Piece of cheap crap

WARNING: DO NOT PURCHASE

It took over an hour to figure out where the USB port was hidden.
It bricked after uploading half a dozen sketches
No support on their website.
Shipped default firmware not available in their library.

In the Arduino IDE the port lists as "dev/ttyUSBo". USBo? What noobs! Poor attention to detail! What else is messed in their code and hardware?

Purchase again? Hell no take them off Tindie.

When you upload the program, please note that the power should be on , it will not be bricked. maybe you can try this .

What a fun little toy! Received quicky and packaged well.

I have been chasing the possibility of a pocket sized basic "computer" for a long time. Using the Altair 8800 emulator, I can play with CP/M and an old version of MS Basic. When I tire of that I can play some Space Invaders or use the VIC-20 emulator for some 8-bit games. I may have to buy more of them so that I don't have to keep overwriting the sketches to change from one to the other.

Never recieved and very unhelpful support

The support responded, and always said they will resolve it.
They never did anything but say i should check again and contact my post office.
The post office only told me that they are the only ones that can do anything about it. So thats what i told them multiple times.
In the end they said i should apply for a refund, but that ship has sailed months ago.
Now that they got their money, and know i cant do anything about it, they dont even respond anymore.

If you need something only they can deliver, make sure to get a refund in time, dont wait out of courtesy, they will only thank you with empty promises.

Fun, may not be Practical

For LILYGO® TTGO T-Watch-2020

I am enjoying creating some watch faces for this thing using the familiar Arduino IDE. Compilation can be very slow. I had a lengthy period of not being able to update the sketch on the device. Turns out it only works on ONE of the THREE USB ports on my laptop.
Weirdly it comes preinstalled with code that is not a functional watch. If you 're lucky you can synch to NTP via WiFi, but there's a hard-wired timezone, somewhere in China. You can not manually set the time. So out of the box, it's useless!
Once you get past that, and can update the code, you might find the sketch shown in all the photos (10:14, Water|GO|Resist along the bottom). Turns out that's also not a functional watch, more of a graphics sampler.
Documentation is sparse to non-existent. My sketches all have links at the top to the various headers in github.
There are quite a few samples. I hope to eventually work out how to make my sketches run in a way that sips from the battery.
I'm still at the development stage, so I'm not wearing it yet. Don't know how long the battery will last.
The single button on the side is a little finickity, doesn't always register a click, you need to finesse the angle.
I don't know how long the little pop-out cap over the USB port will last before the tether breaks.
The strap is weird, haven't go the hang of it. It seems to slide in to notches in the case, I'm hoping to swap it out.

But having said all that, I'm excited about this. A "smart" watch I can program myself is something I've long wanted. And this thing seems chock full of potential!

Due to space constraints, the battery capacity is relatively small, and the battery life also depends on how you use it .
We will pay more attention to buttons when assembling products ,please use pop-out cap over carefully, it will not break under normal use , for now we only have this kind of strap, in the future we will also try to find different types .

I got a lemon one

Purchased the watch for practice programming for a future project for a cosplay suit but the watch arrived missing screws so the band comes loose. I might be able to come up with a screw. However what makes the watch worthless is to discover the battery either is defective or isn't hooked up correctly so it doesn't charge. Works just fine when plugged into the usb port but does defeat the purpose of it being a watch. Email support about it weeks ago and have yet to receive a response.

I've had this device for over a month now and I'm really enjoying it. I'm doing most of my developing using the arduino environment, which is ...ok but I'm going to use this as an excuse to practice micropython in the future.

The battery life is short, but given everything else crammed into the enclosure that is a minor complaint. It's actually been useful because I've had to revisit power management programming in a way I haven't in years.

Exactly as described, IoT watch with SmartWatch form factor

I was careful about reading the descriptions. I'm an IoT developer with a small pile of ESP32 and similar devices on my desk right now. I was looking for a portable device that I could program, and this fit the bill.

While it *LOOKS* similar in size to an Apple Watch or Android watch, it is not. Clearly from the reviews many people were fooled by that. Personally I love this, as previously I have used shrink-tubing melted around soldered components, which does not look good.

It is an IoT device, and the advertisements focus on the hardware in the box. While I usually attach better sensors to my IoT devices, for example using a 9-axis accel/gyro/magnet sensor instead of a 3 axis, the sensor provides enough information for a range of IoT projects.

Most ESP32 boards come with 4 MB of flash space, this ships with 16 MB. By default the 16MB is partitioned as 6MB for the executable, 3.6MB for SPIFFS file data, 6MB for uploading/transferring a new executable, 8KB for over-the-air data updates, and 20KB for applications settings, but they are adjustable. My app is currently floating around 2MB, so I have been considering shifting 4MB from both the executable and transfer space, giving an extra 8 to SPIFFS for for 11.6MB of file data space, but so far haven't needed the storage.

Similarly, ESP32 boards have a variety of memory sizes and can come with as little as 520KB (a half megabyte) of RAM. The device ships with 8MB of ram. Due to ESP32's architecture and much like older PCs and Macs before around 1995, only part of the memory can be actively paged in at a time. Working with PSRam is very similar to working with the Expanded Memory System used by DOS. If you don't do anything special you get access to 4MB, but the paging system allows access to all 8MB.

I have used it to attach to other IoT devices, using WiFi, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), and Espressif's custom ESP-NOW communications system between ESP32 devices. It is a very convenient tool for connecting to my devices.

The screen drains battery like crazy, and WiFi has always been a power drain for ESP32 chips, so beware of both if you want good battery life. Dim the screen as much as possible, and don't use WiFi if you can help it. But even these are basics of IoT programming, not specific to this device.

I found the documentation relatively good in Github, listing all the pins and ports. You as the programmer still need to know what to do with them, but listening on interrupt pins and such works. The documentation is similar to the many other devices I program. It is available as a reference, it isn't a tutorial on how to program.

I had an issue with the shell having a manufacturing defect on arrival. The plastic back had a large crack which has now spread across the entire back face. I have contacted LilyGo who said they will make it right. I'm still waiting but hope that will be resolved soon.
