Hi, Roger - thank you for your review. Could you let me know which part is hidden from you and is not open-source? Could you give me any indications as to when you were denied access to any source code? As for 'overpriced', then I bet you Did go over our BOM and know exactly what you are talking about. I'd be glad to hear your thoughts how to make it more affordable - we'll make it effective immediately. Best wishes, Darius Peckys
I received mine about a week ago, and only just now I got them up and running. Initially, the app would ask me for a device code (suggesting the PIN would either be 1234, or 0000 - 0000 did the trick). Once the sensor was connected, everything worked as expected.
A few comments: - The specs say it measures light. So far I've not seen any lux measurements from my sensors - I'd love to be able to export the data to my own server/laptop. I'm currently exploring snooping bluetooth connections, but this is the completely wrong approach. I could just read the latest measurements as advertised without connecting to the sensor, but that'd make it impractical for me to use it. Ideally I'd connect once every N days, and have my phone then ship these logs elsewhere (or placed in a file I could dropbox as another buyer suggested). Either way, exporting is a big deal for me.
I bought the BLEThrowie as a way to have a simple to use remote monitor for temperature and especially humidity, and that's exactly what it does. I took it out of the package, installed a battery, downloaded the app to my iPhone and started seeing data points. Once I got done showing it off and explaining how it worked to anyone who looked remotely interested, I put it on a shelf in the basement and it's been happily logging data points ever since. The only feature I'd like to see is the ability to export the saved data points to an external file on my iPhone, ideally to Dropbox since that would be the easiest way to get it off the phone. But that isn't essential for how I'm using it, I just have to remember to look at the data before it ages out. I expect to order a couple more to monitor other places in the house, too.
Very nice and compact design! Love it. Now if it would be available with solar panel and either super-capacitor or lithium ion rechargeable battery it would be even more awesome it would be suitable for outside monitoring and forget it's even there :). Great job! Thanks
