Everything arrived as advertised, and I was actually amazed at what this little Tesla Coil could do. It easily (and wirelessly) lit up coiled flourescent bulbs I had from a few inches away, and it lit up LEDs from several feet away! Pretty cool. Also, this little device is pretty simple and was wired exactly as shown in the enclosed schematic. It's been fun to experiment with.
I think I belong to the only Makerspace without Tesla coil, so when this popped up, my thought was to fill that gap. I bought this primarily as an educational demo, not for a theatrical display. (There are others that bring very large Tesla Coils to the local Maker Faire, so that is covered!) The coil arrived a day ahead of the quoted shipping date, so +++ for fast shipping. The coil is very easy to use ... just plug in a 9v battery and you are good to go. As the picture shows on the product page, place a CFL bulb next to it and it will glow. I actually have quite a collection of dead CFL bulbs waiting to go to recycling and discovered that those glow when placed next to this coil. This seems to imply that the failure of my CFL bulbs is the electronics in the bulb base and not the florescent tube.
This would make a great simple class room demonstration of the principles of a Tesla Coil, but follow safe practices because this is a high voltage device. Thanks for making this product available!
