This is a full composite, one of a kind skid-plate designed for the Yamaha XT200 (Now TW200.) It snaps on with one bolt (included!) is super distinctive and very strong. Please consult the Hackaday page for complete build information.
We made this as part of a composites class at Jefferson University in Philadelphia PA. Although a high-end industry standard there are few to no standards for skidplate design for motorcycles. We simulated the load of the bike crossing over a tree at low speed, with touching of the engine to the skidplate itself as the fail condition. We explored design possibilities through FIM simulation, physical testing and prototyping. What you are buying is the second, fully functional prototype. This part was fitted specifically for the 1983 XT200 but should be compatible with many other years, due to the one-off nature of this product we will try our best to provide technical support.
The design was made in Rhino 3D, simulations done in Solidworks. All designs and observations resultant are available on the hackaday page, as is testing information, documentation and providence. This part was made using a two part compression mold made of CNC yellow-foam, wet layup.
