What is it?

This is a newly designed SD card disk drive replacement for Commodore PET and CBM series of computers. It plugs directly into the IEEE-488 port on the rear of the Commodore PET, and has a lead to take power from the datasette port. It provides a way to connect a Silicon Disk to your PET, SD2PET.

Why did you make it?

For many years, I made a disk drive replacement the PET microSD. I had to stop making those as they were taking too much time. Based on what I had learned from that, I designed this replacement from scratch. These drives are produced for me by The Future Was 8 bit, who has produced a very neat injection moulded case for the drive.

What makes it special?

In use, it acts like a real Commodore disk drive, but is considerably smaller than an 8050 or 8250 etc. PRG files can be loaded directly from SD card, or floppy disk images can be mounted and accessed. D64, D71, D80, D81, D82 format are supported.

This is a plug an play solution, just plug directly into the PET. No cables are required. It supports standard disk commands as well as BASIC 4 extended disk commands. It also works well with a DOS Wedge to access additional functionality (available on the optional SD card, and also in the ROM on the PET ROM/RAM board)

What machines are supported?

• PET 2001 (with BASIC 2.0 or 4.0 - BASIC 1.0 machines should be upgraded with a PET ROM/RAM board)
• PET 2001N (2008, 2016, 2032, 3008, 3016, 3032, 4008, 4016, 4032) with BASIC 2.0 or 4.0
• CBM 4016, 4032, 8032, 8096, 8296, 8296D

(CBM 8032-SK and 8096-SK are not supported as they have a different IEEE-488 connector)

What options are there?

There is an option SD card available. This will be preinstalled with a selection of test programs.
