What is it?

This is a custom PCB representing the Nuremberg U-Bahn system. Each subway station is equipped with two LEDs—one for each direction. When a train is present at a station, the corresponding LED lights up; when the train leaves, the LED turns off.

The board is powered by an ESP32, which connects to a self-developed server via WebSocket. The server provides real-time data to the ESP32, enabling accurate visualization of train positions.

Additionally, the board supports convenient features such as over-the-air firmware updates. The ESP32 periodically checks with the server for new firmware versions, making it easy to fix bugs or add improvements remotely.

Why did you make it?

While on my honeymoon with my wife, I saw a similar board for the New York subway system at the MoMA in NYC. I was so inspired by it that I decided to create something like it for my hometown of Nuremberg. The positive feedback from friends and family motivated me to finish the project and keep improving it.

What makes it special?

This product is entirely self-designed and programmed. I have improved it over several iterations and turned it into a finished product that is very easy to set up.
