In a nutshell...

As with the original version of this product, it can connect your motorized standing desk to your home automation system. It can read your desk's current height, and set it as well. This lets you create automations that integrate with your desk, for example:

If you're sitting for too long, raise desk to standing height
When you leave home, raise desk to max height so the cat can't knock things over
Have an infinite number of presets for everyone in your household
Send desk height data to InfluxDB to analyze how often you're sitting vs. standing
Control your standing desk from a Stream Deck
Publish your desk's height on the internet

Or whatever else you'd like. The possibilities are endless! As long as the possibilities involve a standing desk.

This project is fully open-source. If you would like to modify the design or get your own boards fabricated, head to the GitHub repo. You'll find everything you need there.

What's new‽

This is the successor to the WiFi Standing Desk Controller, packed with improvements and bug fixes — most notably:

USB-C port for easy flashing (and because USB-C is cool 😎)
Runtime firmware configuration -- no more manual flashing or compiling ESPHome to change stuff
Improved enclosure design with a more snug fit and screw-mounted PCB, allowing for easier repairs and troubleshooting
Replacing the D1 Mini with an ESP32-WROOM module, providing hardware UART for more reliable desk connection
A catchier name, because "WiFi Standing Desk Controller" was a mouthful

This revision also fixes some annoying issues from the first version, such as the desk sometimes lowering on startup, or simply not powering at all without a hacky workaround.

Compatibility

Any standing desk that uses RJ45 to connect to the keypad is likely compatible, but the brands of desks specified on this page have been verified to work properly.

Everything works perfectly on my Furna E2

Brilliant product! I was looking to create something myself, but this is too perfect to even bother trying.

Shipping took a little while to the UK, but that's to be expected. It arrived well packaged and already assembled.

Setup was easy using the USB Serial configuration directly in the setup documentation. After that it appeared in Home Assistant right away and everything worked without any issues. I have a Furna E2 purchased in 2018.

Exactly what I wanted

I figured I was going to have to develop this myself, but was super happy to find someone had already done it. And done it well!

It was trivial to get the device on my walled-off WiFi network and then poke it with curl. I wanted this so I could automate raising my desk to standing height overnight so that I stand in the morning. I lower the desk around lunchtime, but if I come in the next morning and it's already at sitting height, I'm likely to just sit again. Being able to raise it overnight helps me avoid just taking the easy path.

I printed my enclosure and used the included hardware. Stuck it to the bottom of the desk with some double-sided tape. Made a tiny patch cable to keep it tidy and I'm super happy!

An awesome product and an awesome creator!

Great communication with the seller and very accommodating!

The product is awesome - works so well with home assistant and my Elgato Keylight & Stream Deck. I now have a button on my Stream Deck called meeting that when pressed - raises my desk and turns on my Key Light.

The device I didn't know I needed but now cannot live without! Very easy to setup!

Wow - a really well done device for my Jarvis desks!

Fantastic! This is a terrific little device. This was easy to setup - I had it out of the box and controlling my desk in minutes! The Home assistant integration is perfect and exactly what I needed. This isn't something everyone (or maybe anyone lol) *needs* but if you're a home assistant nerd like myself, buy one ASAP! HIGHLY recommended.

Honestly worth every penny!

After dealing with the official Bluetooth "solution" where the app did not work for my Uplift Desk.
I discovered this product and between it just working, getting regular updates, and impressively enough the developer is very responsive on the official Discord.

Very easy to get this setup with home automation

This was easer to setup than I expected. The only hiccup was that I needed to update the firmware to the most current version for the configurations to show up. This process was very easy though and everything ran smoothly after that.

Like many, I heard of the Upsy Desky on The Verge and immediately impulse bought one, as I am currently in the middle of a minor home automation obsession. It was very easy to set up for my Fully Jarvis & Home Assistant and now a whole new world of desk-height-based automations has been opened up!

My desk is moving up in the world.

I've owned a Fully Jarvis desk for about 8 months, and always thought it a shame that one of my most expensive office items remained inaccessible to smart home automation. About a month ago I discovered a few methods on GitHub that could provide the height automation I need, but despite being a DIY-er, all the options were just difficult enough that they delayed me following through.

Then last week I discovered the Upsy Desky listed on Tindie. Placed an order and the unit arrived 6 days later. The instructions were incredibly straightforward; I had the device connected to my WiFi network and configured in Home Assistant within 20 minutes. I went on to create a toggle button for my HA dashboard, allowing me to switch between my two most used desk heights, as well as Shortcuts in iOS so I can adjust the desk with Siri voice commands.

Had I not discovered the Upsy Desky, you'd probably discover me six months from now, a newbie losing my mind as I struggled to arrange a bunch of wires in an ESP breadboard. Instead, you'll find me on the other side of my house from my desk, cueing it to move up and down, just for the heck of it!

Fantastic product, works like a charm with Home Assistant

I've long wanted to automate my Uplift standing desk, but never had the time or expertise to reverse engineer the protocol, let alone design the hardware. This solved both of those problems, packaged in such a friendly experience. The instructions were very clear, and I had this integrated into Home Assistant within 5 minutes. For me, no additional configuration was necessary, as the device recognized my desk configuration. Thank you for such a great product!

Didn’t know I needed this

This has made it very easy to control my desk from my phone or Mac as well as ensure I’m standing more during the work day.

Build quality is excellent and setup was a breeze. If I had a 100 desks I would buy a 100 of these.

I love this thing

Do I *need* to be able to control my standing desk with a RESTful API call? No, absolutely not. Do I *love* being able to control my standing desk with a RESTful API call? Yes, absolutely yes! This is such a fun little device — it was dead simple to set up and worked immediately without issues with my Fully Jarvis desk. I have no idea how I'll use it in practice (maybe a cron to force my desk up before daily standup?) but for now I'm just having tons of fun playing with it and toying with various automation ideas. Thanks for a great gadget!

Exactly what I wanted!

I was researching how to make this exact device when I stumbled upon a link to this in a reddit form. Figured I would have spent more than $40 worth of electronics, 3D printing, and time to learn it on my own. I'm very happy with this! I integrated it with Home Assistant easily by following the clear documentation.

I have it running on a simple automation that raises the desk to standing position 1 minute before my daily morning meeting if I'm working from home that day.

Does what is says and dev is responsive!

Received this product 12 days after ordering and purchased the kit fully assembled. Hooking up to Home Assistant and getting it working was a breeze and documentation is very helpful. Had small firmware bug right out of the gate but was able to fix quickly and the dev was responsive on acknowledging the issue and adding it to the next firmware version.

The 3D-printed case is of okay quality. There is some layer shift and small bridging issues on the case that I received, none of which effect the function of the product.

Overall I am happy with my purchase!

Awesome

This little device is super cool and easy to setup. Integrated right into Home Assistant without almost no effort from me. I paid to have an enclosure printed for me and I'm glad I did because clearly TJ has a way better 3D printer than I do. Shipping was also really fast so much appreciated.

Easy to integrate into existing esphome setups and configs

Very well written documentation for a painless setup with existing esphome systems. Customizing the default configuration and re-flashing was also easy with the latest esphome dashboard. Now to just hook it up to influx and gamifying my standing ratio... the actual hard part.
