Read More…This is a PCB for adapting TTL Serial signals to RS-485, and an IEE VFD Display. The PCB is based around 2 MAX485 ICs and features an 8P8C connector (RJ-45). The VFD displays are used, and have some degree of burn-in.
This project was done to make use of a set of displays acquired online. Who doesn't like the cool green glow of these displays.
These displays have a number of different character sets that go far beyond those in typical HD44780 LCD displays. These include: Katakana, Cyrillic, Hebrew, Greek, ISO 8859-2 (Polish/Slavic letters), etc... Schematics of the ttl-485 board and the command set section of the display's manual are provided. A brief python example is included too.
The displays start up at 9600 baud.
