Please read this before purchasing

Some devices will connect to Android Auto and charge at the same time but they will not fast charge due to software limitations or other factors. They may even say fast charging but actually charge slowly. If your device or a similar device is under the charges slowly category, please don't buy unless you want to experiment and see if you can get it to work. In general this applies to stock devices, if your device is rooted it may work for you.

What is it?

A USB C Power/Data Splitter that allows the user to use legacy USB for data while simultaneously fast charging. I personally find this useful for charging my phone in the car while simultaneously using Android Auto or Apple Carplay, but it could also be useful for software development or any other situation where you need your phone plugged into a computer or similar device for data that is not capable of fast charging.

Works as advertised, but....

... It doesn't charge with the full capacity of the fast charger.
It's more powerful then the android car plug only thou. So it does it jobs and avoids draining the battery.
I have tried that unit with Note10+, Note10, Galaxy S22+ successfully.

For now, more about the seller than the product

I have a power-hungry phone (a Galaxy Note 10+, which is listed as compatible), and the car's native connecter is just not up to the task. More than once my phone has died during the day (due to a toddler who loves to play on Daddy's phone), and then was unavailable for GPS that evening. When a trip to the Renaissance Festival and a dead phone almost stranded my whole family, I decided I needed a fix.

A quick Google search brought me to Reddit, where this very device was being discussed. It seemed perfect! The answer to my conundrum! But they were out of stock. I placed myself on the waiting list and checked every day until it was available again. I ordered immediately.

The splitter itself arrived very quickly, but I also needed to buy some short cables so that my front seat wasn't a pile of spaghetti. The last one came in today, and with bated breath, I hooked it all up. No power, no connection to Android Auto... nothing. Imagine my disappointment. I tried different cables, made sure that the PD adapter could charge the phone on its own, made sure the Android Auto connection was working by itself. Everything seemed fine, until I tried to route through the splitter. (Splitter? It's really a combiner, isn't it?)

I was about to write an unkind review, or at least a frustrated one, when I decided that no, I really needed to give the seller/maker the chance to help without me badmouthing him in front of others. I had seen on reviews already that he was quick to respond and very helpful, so that seemed the most fair option. I tried very carefully to detail my issue, the hardware I had, and what steps I had taken to troubleshoot the issue, and even my own amateur theory on what was happening.

I didn't expect a response the same day. I would have been impressed with Mr. Koripalli if he had replied tomorrow, or the next day. Instead, I believe it took him... four hours?

I should admit my shame here: I work in IT, and have for a couple of decades. I'm used to troubleshooting, but I also know that I don't always think of everything to try, and that I have a tendency to bypass the basics and go right for the more complicated stuff. I thought the combined length of the two cables I was using was causing problems, since USB-C PD has a rather short max length specification. Mr. Koripalli very gently suggested a different, simpler solution while also pointing out, very kindly, that I had neglected to read the instructions that he had already provided. RTFM, and all that, but much nicer.

Please, please, if you buy one of these things, and you get no power going through it, take the cable going between the splitter and the power adapter, and flip it end-for-end. Swap the connectors that are in the splitter and the power adapter. I have a strong feeling it will work. Mine did, and I felt dumb.

I haven't had a chance to fully test this out yet, only having time to confirm that my phone was charging and that Android Auto recognized it and could play audio from it. The only reason I didn't rate the product as 5 stars is because I haven't had the opportunity to use it yet. If possible, I'll edit this review later, and if not, I'll just write another one.

If your phone is power hungry like mine, and you want to use Android Auto, buy this. Don't hesitate. Buy it. Now. Go.

Can finally use my phone without my battery draining with Android Auto.

For the record I confirm with the setup I have it worked with a Pixel 6.

Doesn't work most of the time

This thing seems to be *extremely* picky about what kind of cables you use, what kind of phone you have, and what kind of vehicle you have. I have to admit that I have seen it work, but I'll be damned if I can figure out why or how to recreate that combination. How something that (theoretically) should be so simple can be so finicky is beyond my patience.

Hi Robert,

Thank you for your feedback. You're correct that the setup is very picky about cables and phones that are compatible. As I mentioned in the product description, many phones are incompatible due to not supporting USB PD or various software quirks. The most common problem people have when setting up is that the board passes through the power delivery connection from the charger to the phone. As a result the connection from the phone port of the board is not reversible and only works in one direction as mentioned in the instructions. This is not typical for USB C so although it seems random it's actually quite predictable. Considering you were able to get it working at least once I'm guessing that is your issue.

Works intermittently

Edit: firstly my apologies to the creator - he responded in the end and offered me a refund. I was in process of video recording the product not working, but typically it started to work! I used the same cables when it didn't work.

Today it didn't work when I plugged it in. After trial and error I believe that it is best to plug in the power cables first to the phone, and then when the phone is charging to connect the data cable. For me when I leave the power and data cable both plugged in to the unit and then connect the phone it fails. But the power first then the data works. Hope this helps others.

Fantastic!

This little device is a big help. Works as intended and the case looks good. I found some 6" cables on Amazon to limit the mess from the extra wiring. But, well worth it because my phone now charges reliably while using Android Auto. All 3 cables are from Cable Creations on Amazon. My phone is a OnePlus 8T+ and I drive a 2018 Chevy Equinox. Before, my phone would sometimes charge normally, sometimes slowly, and sometimes actually slowly lose power. So far it is working great. Not warp charging, but I'm just using whatever cigarette lighter adapter I already had. Thanks!

Pixel 6 Pro

Just received this and it appears to work with fast charging on the Pixel 6 Pro. Phone indicates fast charging and battery increases as if it was plugged in to a USB C-PD charger. I don't have a USB monitor to actually verify amps being pulled, but I'm happy with it. I'm testing this with a 2020 Toyota Tacoma stock head unit.

Great Product, Amazing Service

I bought this to use with me Samsung Note 20 in my 2021 Mazda 3.

I at first had some difficulties getting it to work, I initially just thought I had a compatibility issue with either the car or phone. I contacted Rohan to let him know the Note 20 might not be compatible and he helped me troubleshoot the issue. We eventually came to the conclusion that the board might be faulty after I tried it with another phone and he sent a new board right out. I was able to get it working with the new board.

Amazing customer service and troubleshooting help, Rohan went above and beyond to help.

Now with the board working, I can say it does what it's supposed to do and its great to be able to have my phone charge fast while also using Android Auto.

The usb-c /data splitter works as advertised, but you always need to read the directions first!!!! Working great
with an Apline ilx-409 and ilx-407 with Samsung galaxy s20, Note 10Plus, and a Note 10. as a bonus I'm getting

Finally fast charging

25 watt charging is working with both my S20 FE and my wife's S21. I'm using a short Samsung usb c cable from the charger, and old Verizon usb c from the splitter, and a random micro usb that came with a flashlight. It didn't work the first time it was plugged in but turning over the usb c cable from the charger fixed it. I also bought the case which is nicely done in laser sintered nylon. The finish is nicer then anything I could print and I don't need to worry about it breaking down in the heat.

It works!

I had a little issue with its temperament at first since not all cords were compatible so I had to rummage around the house for micro USB's and other cables. At first C to C cables didn't work for the power with my Anker cigarette lighter charger. Multiple A to C cables for the power worked until it didn't because it started telling me to check the cords I used so I switched back to C to C in hopes that it will work again (I honestly thought I broke it!). I had to take it inside the house and plugged it into my 45W and 65W USB C laptop chargers, and they worked just fine and charged my phone with the dongle. I returned to my car and after some fiddling... it just worked. I don't know what I did but it just worked. Android Auto and charging, finally. I'm not fiddling with those cords, haha!

Fix my power charging problem

I am so pleased I finally have a solution to the power charging problem I was having with my LG V20 and 2017 Sorrento when using Android Auto. Props to Rohan Koripalli for designing and building such a high quality device!

I'm using it with two Anker Powerline UCB-C to USB-C cables (from Amazon), a decent USB 2.0 to micro USB B cable I had, and a Scosche PowerVolt PD40 Dual-Port USB-C Car Charger (from Canadian Tire).

Took a while to ship out to Sydney. The case is a bit easy to crack but managed with some blue tack. I've got a Samsung S10e and it works great with an aftermarket Sony XAV-AX5000 head unit! can confirm that it fast charges while Android Auto is running.

Great product

The product itself is smaller than I expected and the case was definitely worth the small upcharge for the peace of mind that it'll stay safe in my glove compartment. As long as you use the cables recommended by the seller, this product should not have any connectivity issues.

I originally purchased this for my LG G8 ThinQ but it doesn't work with my device. It works fine on my wife's Samsung Galaxy S10 though. The seller is awesome and very helpful and quick to respond. It's refreshing to have such an amazing experience with a seller that stands behind their product and provides this level of customer service. Thanks again!

Excellent product, but not for ALL phones

Well-made product, and nice 3D printed housing. Works great for certain phones. May not work for ALL combinations of phones, chargers, and versions of Android.

Car: 2018 Subaru Impreza
Charger: Anker 42W PowerDrive Speed+ Duo, (w/ USB-A and USB-C PD ports)

Phone(s):
LG G7 ThinQ, Android 9, WORKS. Connects to Android Auto on USB-A power (regular charging) AND on USB-C (fast charging).
LG G8 ThinQ, Android 10, DOES NOT WORK. Only connects to Android Auto on USB-A power (says "charging" but actually slow discharging). No AA connection on USB-C (fast charging only, AA icon greyed out on Subaru screen). Changing USB Debugging mode settings had no effect.

USB Cables: All new Monoprice cables (A-to-C power, C-to-C power/phone, A-to-micro car/data)

The G7 and G8 both running the latest Android Auto (6.5.612134-release), with the same power settings. The issue may be with Android 10. (Android 9 has a separate Android Auto app, with its own shortcut, and seems to work fine.)

Works Great for MOST Phones!!!

The splitter works great on my 2018 Hyundai Kona Trend. But...

The only issue I have is that it does not work on my Asus Zenfone 6 (daily driver). Just can't get it to connect to the head unit in any car. Seems like just my luck lol! I did test 3 other phones though!

I can confirm that device works on the Essential PH-1 perfectly, works on the Asus Zenfone 3 perfectly and the Samsung S21 perfectly.

Amazing idea and excellent execution!

Works great with an LG V60. Does exactly what is described, nice small board, I haven't gone out of my way to install it in my car yet, but it does work well. My head unit basically wouldn't charge my phone, simply "keep it from dying" and now I can use my fast charger when I need to! The only downside has nothing to do with the device, and just that adding 2 more cables and more connectors and points of failure to a system like that increases like likelihood that something can not work correctly.

I can start from beginning to end where i was dumb enough to think something like this would work. no shipping notification. nobody letting me know the item would ship or how long it would take. and the product itself? total garbage. i tossed it because it did not work.

Works as described

Works perfectly. Super fast charges my s 21 ultra. It's does require a high quality data/power micro USB cable. None of my old ones worked. Had to buy a new one. With that small issue aside awesome product.

Simple, well-designed splitter

I've been looking for a splitter like this that would let me separate the charging and data paths of a USB C connection. Rather than increase the charge rate, I wanted to reduce it using a Chargie to prevent extra wear and tear on my battery while using Android Auto. This splitter works great for my purposes and I've noticed no connection issues so far, even with the Chargie and a Volta Spark magnetic cable connected to it. Will use it long term and report on any issues, though it seems solid so far. Looking forward to the injection molded case to give it a more finished look over the 3D printed case.

18w PD charging while running Android Auto, the dream.

Mine arrived today and it works great with the Aukey 18w USB C charger that I already had, it reports as Fast Charging when plugged in rather than just Charging or Charging Slowly.

I however had ordered a Super Fast 55w PPS USB C charger to use with this and I regret to report that the PPS 55w/ PD3.0 45W side with USB C did not work at all, while the QC 3.0 18w side reported as Charging but not Fast Charging.

All in all, I am thrilled with this board.

For anyone curious, this is with a Samsung Galaxy S20 FE in a 2017 Subaru Impreza with the base stereo. Using Anker Powerline+ cables.

Works great!

I received the splitter today and got it hooked up. I can't verify the actual charging rate as I do not have a USB-C power meter but my phone reports that it is fast charging and it is absolutely charging *significantly* faster than it ever did when connected directly to my headunit. Whether I get *full* fast charge speed or not, my phone now charges quite quickly when connected to my car and with the screen on, whereas when connected directly to the headunit it would only tick up maybe a percentage every 30 minutes with the screen off and would discharge when using the phone as well.

This is with a S21 Ultra and an aftermarket Kenwood headunit.

Awesome product!

Edit: Review edited to reflect further time with the product. Initial impression left me unsure if I was getting full charging speed, without the ability to actually measure, further time has let me realize that it does, indeed, seem to be charging at full speed. My initial impressions seem to have been off due to my car not providing enough power to the 12v aux port for my charger when the engine was turned off. With the engine running, my rate of charge increased significantly.

As noted on the FB group, now I want one with the power source switchable between the AA and the charger so I can decide when I want a power boost and when I just want a trickle to let AA run! lol
