This project came about as part of a children's program at my public library with Squishy Circuits. Squishy Circuits is basically play-dough that conducts electricity reasonably well. It's a fantastic way to teach kids about electricity, it's very hands-on, and I've yet to meet a kid who hasn't loved it.
Squishy Circuits dough has a resistance in the range of kOhms per cubic inch. If you put two wires in a piece of the dough and play with it, you can measure the resistance changing as it moves around, which is how the SquishyDuino works.
There are two versions of the SquishyDuino. One has a buzzer, and the other has an RGB LED. The buzzer variety alters the pitch of a speaker based on the resistance across the dough. The RGB version has three pairs of wires; one for each color. If you put the wires in three separate pieces of dough, you can control each color of the LED individually!
You get two SquishyDuinos; one buzzer, and one LED. All you need to provide is some 9V batteries, some Squishy Circuit dough, and kids interested in science!
