These 3D Printed tools allow the straightening of DIP IC pins prior to soldering or placement in IC sockets. As supplied, most through hole DIP ICs come with their pins splayed out slightly, meaning they have to be bent manually (usually on a bench by hand). If not bent so that they are straight, the ICs are extremely hard to place in a PCB or in a socket.
I have damaged ICs, stabbed my fingers with IC Pins and wasted time attempting to prepare ICs for soldering in the past. I wanted a simple tool to prevent this in the future.
To use, simply place the IC on the center finger of the tool and firmly press the outer fingers inwards. They will naturally spring away revealing an IC with the pins straight (See comparison image). Please DO NOT bend the fingers outwards at all. The pivot is small and very fragile. The fingers will spring back to normal on their own. The large IC Lead straightener has a magnet in the handle for aid in storage.
