The USB Flexible I/O Adapter is an Adafruit MCP2221A Breakout that has been reprogrammed to act as a USB raw HID Remote I/O Protocol Server. Connect it to your Linux, macOS, or Windows computer to provide eight Flexible I/O Pins. Each of the eight I/O pins can be configured as a digital input or a digital output. Some pins can also be configured as 10-bit analog inputs, or to provide I2C or SPI bus signals.
The Remote I/O Protocol Server firmware has better GPIO/ADC/I2C performance than the original MCP2221A firmware. It also adds support for a single SPI slave device. Since it acts as a raw HID device, no special device driver is required on Linux, macOS, or Windows.
Every unit is programmed with a unique USB device serial number, so you can connect more than one if you need a lot of GPIO pins. Or you can connect the I2C or SPI bus to one or more GPIO expanders, for even more GPIO pins!
If you solder in the included header pins, the USB Flexible I/O Adapter works perfectly in a solderless breadboard. The on-board QWIIC connector brings out the normal I2C bus for QWIIC peripheral modules. Or with an adapter cable, it can be used for 3.3V analog or digital Grove System peripheral modules as well.
