The Sharp MZ-80A/MZ-2000 lacks easy expansion capability as afforded to sibling machines such as the MZ-80B with it's 6 slot expansion cage.
The MZ-80A/MZ-2000 design is intended to incorporate a plug in expansion dock, the MZ-80AEU (220VAC-240VAC MZ-80A machines)/MZ-1U01 (100VAC MZ-2000 machines) which allows for 4 expansion cards and a dedicated power supply. The MZ-80AEU/MZ-1U01 is still available but not so common compared to the number of MZ-80A/MZ-2000 computers in circulation.
There is a need to be able to quickly and cheaply connect an expansion card of choice to the MZ-80A/MZ-2000 especially for floppy disk use which is very desirable with the ageing of tape magnetic media.
The EXT-80A fills this gap, allowing for a single expansion card to be connected to the MZ-80A/MZ-2000.
The EXT-80A plugs into the MZ-80A/MZ-2000 expansion port and a separate fly lead connects to the provided encapsulated 2Amp PSU which is powered via the internal mains socket within the MZ-80A/MZ-2000 body. The PSU has a voltage range of 85V-265VAC so will work with 100VAC MZ-2000 or 220-240VAC MZ-80A's.
