The LoRa1262 wireless module uses Semtech's SX1262 device, which uses a high-precision TCXO crystal oscillator, ultra-low receive current and sleep current, and sensitivity of -148dBm. Built-in 64KHz crystal oscillator can wake up the microcontroller periodically under low power consumption. The module antenna switch is integrated and controlled by the chip, which saves the resources of the external MCU. The compact size and 22dBm (160mW) output power have great advantages in IoT and battery-powered applications.

Good units, but with a bit of runaround.

The modules work well: I was using these to transmit 20 km at 10mW transmit power (with line of sight, on a quiet frequency). Their power consumption is low enough that I didn't bother to measure it properly, but in my application it is well below 1mA when not transmitting.

The modules lack a marker on top to know whether they have been installed properly. The pins are only marked on the underside; if the module doesn't work after installation there is no visual way to check it wasn't accidentally installed backwards.

The modules are almost pin compatible with RFM95 units, which is handy if you want to play around with a Moteino or some such. The SPI pins match, but I did have to put in some custom wires to hook up the Busy and DIO lines.

I ordered some 433 MHz units. I was quite excited when they arrived less than two weeks later, but disappointed to see that they had shipped 860 MHz units, which were no good to me.

When I contacted customer support, I was advised by Helen that the 433 MHz units use the SX1268 module and do not come with a TCXO. At that time, this was not mentioned in the description (I'm glad to see they have now updated it). I explained that I needed modules with a TCXO, and would not have bought these modules had that been advertised, Helen organised to send me some custom 433MHz modules with TCXOs as a replacement. The replacement modules were shipped quickly and worked as advertised, which I thought was great customer service. However, I was requested to send back the incorrect modules on my own dime, via registered mail. I did not comply with that and sent them first class mail instead (I only ordered 6 modules - at a cost of $30. To return them by registered mail would have cost more than the order!).

I had a technical question about the TCXO modules used in these*. I twice contacted customer support to request the information; the first time I was sent a datasheet which did not include the required information, the second time I did not receive any response.

For 433MHz, I would recommend the Dorji SX1268 modules over these ones; I trialled some of those and have now changed my design to use them rather (sadly they are not pin compatible, but it wasn't too hard to change).

* If using the module in the low power Receive Duty Cycle mode, an important parameter is how long the TCXO takes to stabilise.
