This device, born by the need for larger and more spectacular arrays of large nixie tubes, is a high voltage DC-DC converter. It is not just any bargain bin nixie power supply however; this boost converter will easily do 200 milliamps of high voltage (continuously adjustable from 170-190 volts) from anywhere between 12 to 24 volts DC in. Without breaking a sweat.
Long story short, I created this power supply to bridge a niche gap in the nixie tube market. There are several neon enthusiasts out there that have expressed the desire for a single high power, high voltage solution as opposed to using many small power supplies.

The rated input-output characteristics are as follows:
Input: anywhere between 12 to 24 volts DC (no jumpers required, auto detecting)
Output: adjustable between 170 to 190 volts DC
Rated continuous high voltage output current: 200 milliamps
Minimum 91% efficiency at 12 volts in (efficiency increases at higher input voltages)
Recommended AC-DC adapter specifications: 50 watts +, UL rated
Each power supply is painstakingly hand assembled using brand new OEM components from Digikey and burn-in tested for 4 hours at rated output.
This design is built on high performance, genuine components and boasts several useful features:
Texas Instruments TPS40211 current mode boost controller, with enable/disable for turning high voltage on/off using an external switch or micro-controller
High TG (170-180) FR4 boards, 2oz copper weight, ENIG finished with matte green soldermask and gold silkscreen. Boards are fabricated with rigorous quality control standards.
High voltage, high current HiPerFET™ MOSFET from IXYS (Littlefuse)
SiC (silicon carbide) automotive grade Schottky diode from STMicroelectronics
High ripple current, long life 105°C electrolytic capacitors from Panasonic and Rubycon
High current, parallel torodial inductors with Sendust cores from Bourns
C0G/NP0 ceramic capacitors for signal, X7R/X7T for decoupling and bulk power
Input and output wire-to-board terminal blocks, 5 amp rated input barrel jack (2.00mm ID 5.50mm OD)
Socketed, replaceable 6.3 amp fast-blow fuse
Trim pot for high voltage (continuously adjustable from 170 to 190 volts)
Input filtering and surge suppression
