The CP2100 is a low cost dual channel current probe for measuring currents in electronics circuits. It's an invaluable tool for building amplifiers, switching power supplies and many other electronic circuits. The sensitivity is 100mV/A in a high impedance load and 50mV/A in a 50 Ohm load. The bandwidth is over 10MHz.
Clamp-on current probes usually cost many thousands of dollars (even second hand). Since many circuits use surface mounted components a break-out wire is needed to use a clamp on current probe. If a break-out wire is then why not connect that wire to a box? That is how the CP2100 current probe was born. No hassle with expensive clamp on probes but a low cost solution to get a grip on the current in a circuit. Since I noticed that I would like to measure two different currents I made it to have two identical channels. The end result is a solution which is more than 20 times cheaper than a clamp-on current probe. So far I have used it for developing several commercial circuits involving switching power supplies and wireless power transfer.
The CP2100 uses a 5V power supply so it can be used with an adapter or it could be powered from a USB port on a laptop so it is also a great companion for a portable USB oscilloscope.
