Read More…Solstice is an open-source Arduino variant that shaves approximately 10mm off the length and width of the classic Arduino footprint while still larger than the Adafruit Feather. The basic Solstice board measures 60mm x 42mm. Base boards are called a "Core" and we are creating two variants, one called Albedo (the most basic, no-frills design) and StarFire(includes 16 SK6812 3.5mm RGB LEDs along two edges). In addition to our slightly more compact shields, we call "HaLo", Solstice also has a connector for micro-size shields that we call "Umbra". The Umbra boards can be as small as 26x26mm and as large as 50x26mm all while fitting stealthily under a normal size HaLo. This allows for feature-rich and compact implementations.
When I started this project I wanted to make something that was off-the-shelf and that I would find useful to my own creations. I desired all the features of the Arduino but wanted something a little more compact. Solstice shaves off about 10mm in width and length of the traditional Arduino outline as well as optimizes the shield pinout.
More compact than Arduino. Shields are called Hardware Locus (HaLo). Fixes Arduino's off-by-0.5-inches shield connector issue (use standard perf board if you want). Second mini-Halo under the regular HaLo. Sixteen addressable RGB LEDs on-board, great for debug and/or bling. Power with USB-micro connector at 5V or power with up to 12V (uses on-board 5V regulator) using on-board JST connector. On-board 3.3V @ 250mA reference voltage, available to HaLo's. 5V I/O levels, 3.3V external components will require level conversion. Open Source EagleCAD files! Make or modify your own variant.
HaLos available:
-- PerfBoard HaLo
-- BreadBoard HaLo
