It is compatible with the open source AdaFruit NeoPixel library and can be easily driven from an Arduino. The panel is only 24mm x 24mm square and it's perfect for cosplay lighting.
Maximum power usage is approximately 6.4 Watts ( 1.24 Amps @ 5V ). Panels can be daisy chained to any length of pixels supported by the AdaFruit NeoPixel library but only one single panel should be powered directly off the Arduino or USB cable due to power limitations of USB. You should plan to power more than one panel using an external 5V source capable of supplying 1.25Amps per panel used.
The panel measures 24mm x 24mm. The pixels go all the way to the edge so that you can seamlessly tile multiple panels for bigger arrays.
The panel works like a NeoPixel, simply supply 5V, Ground and a single input signal from your Arduino or microcontroller. Use the AadaFruit NeoPixel library or PixelBlaze system to drive the panels. There are three output pads (5V, GND and Signal Out) for chaining to the next panel or other WS2812B type LEDs.
Available as a kit or parts. The kit version may require special equipment like a super fine point soldering tip. The LEDs are VERY sensitive to heat and can be damaged by heating for more than one or two seconds. If your soldering station has adjustable heat, that would buy you more time. If you can solder QFP and 0603 size components, then you can likely solder this kit with minimal frustration. Kits are non-returnable but do include 3 extra LEDs.
A 3D file of this panel is available via the Design Files link at the bottom of this page.
I like to challenge myself with new PCB designs, so I decided to see how small I could make PCBs with the smallest WS2812 type pixels I could find. I knew that if I made some LED modules that were the smallest possible with commodity components that many Tindie shoppers would find them useful for their own creations.
The Equinox 0801-B is one of the smallest and dense WS2812 compatible lighting modules available anywhere. Use it for wearable electronics and costuming.
