I have (after some corrections, see the stickers in the images!) finished the next prototype of my parallel port sound card thingy. I really don't know what to call it. 🙂

Regular resistor DAC adapters can be found aplenty on eBay and whatnot. My version has a few extra features though that I haven't seen on other versions. It has three modes:

• Covox Speech Thing; thus, a regular resistor DAC
• Disney Sound Source
• FTL Sound Adapter detection (makes it possible to run Dungeon Master, see video demonstration below!)

It also has a switchable bass filter that you can adjust to your liking:

• 23.9 kHz
• 6.9 kHz
• 3.9 kHz
• 2.8 kHz

It also has a built-in headphone amplifier, some filters and stuff which makes sure the sound does not get distorted by your headphones (something that is rather common for the simplest adapters that can be found elsewhere) or that the sound level gets reduced. It is powered by either a USB-B or, as requested, a USB-C connector. Use whatever suits you the best.

It also has built-in ESD protection.

Note that for some reason, ID Software only implemented sound effects using the Disney Sound Source; you needed an Adlib sound card in order to play MIDI.
