Have you bought the RC2014 Classic (full monty)? But even after some extensive troubleshooting, you are still not able to get it to work? This kit may be the solution.
This kit contains 3 empty PCBs and all parts (sockets, pins and passive components) to help you build a new system from your failed RC2014 Classic kit. The kit does not contain ICs, you need to use the ICs from the Classic kit.
You may wonder why this kit only has 3 modules (PCBs), while your Classic kit has 5 modules, how is that possible? And is this kit less powerful? The reason is that I have combined several functions on one module but still maintaining the same functionality. Actually, this kit has some advantages like reducing the number of modules, improves the reliability of the system and save slots on the backplane. Mounting the crystal on both the serial and the CPU modules improves the reliability further of the system, but enables also the CPU to run at a different or higher clock speed then the serial chip (up to 20Mhz if your Z80 CPU can handle it).
After migrating to the new kit, you will have a more capable, robust and upgradeable system.
The kit consists of the following modules (ICs not included)
31e Serial MC68B50P ACIA and clock module (rec. 7.3728Mhz)
41d Memory Module; 32kb RAM + banked 8 x 8kb ROM
You find more information about this and other modules at my homepage www.z80.no. Here you also find troubleshooting guides. You can also send me a message if you have any questions.
If you think the problem is with the backplane, here is one product which may help SC112 Modular Backplane If you have problems with the serial connection, a reliable serial-USB is also available here.
