The Backplane makes it easier to build your own LoRa Gateway. If you use the great tutorial "From zero to LoRaWAN in a weekend" from the "The Things Network Community Zurich" (https://github.com/ttn-zh/ic880a-gateway/wiki) this backplane works perfectly for you. Thanks to "The Things Network community Zurich" for this great tutorial!
The Board is a simple backplane to connect the IMST IC880A with a Raspberry PI (2 Model B or above). For the IC880A the backplane supplies power from the Raspberry PI, so the internal fuses from the Raspberry PI are in use. I think this is better to supply the power on the backplane. (If using PIN2&6 you are bypassing the fuse of the Raspberry PI).
I wanted to use the backplane instead of wiring with jumper cables to avoid potential interferences. And a backplane is more professional and smarter then using jumper cables....
There is nothing special, a simple backplane to connect a few PINs of two boards.
