The Microcontroler of the Micro:Bit is a nRF51 at 16 MHz, not so powerfull, but it has low power Bluetooth and interesting features. The board includes an accelerometer and provides analogue inputs, SPI and I2C. The 25 leds of the Micro:Bit are good for kids. For us, a numeric or graphic display is missing.
Our solution to save the connectors limit us to 4 Micro:Bit signals: P1, P2 that can be uses as analogue or digital signal, and Scl, Sda of the I2C port. On I2C you have a choice of displays and sensors; OledForMbit has one connector for the 32x128 SSD1306 Oled, one connector for the 64x128 model, plus two Grove for I2C and P0 P1 signals.
OledForMbit is screwed with self-centering bolts on the Micro:Bit. This provides power and P0 P1 signals. Two contacts press on the connector to get the I2C signal. No more than 2, and correctly positioned so the contact is guarantied.
Educational sites propose Blocks, MakeCode, Python, MicroPython, Java script. The familiar Arduino IDE can be used to program, see Adafruit documentation. Use the pin numbers we document and keep your pinMode, analogRead, etc habits to blink any led and read inputs.
In addition to the PCB, you get the bolt and nuts (with spares) the connectors and a narrow SSD1306 32x128 pixels. Easy to solder the connectors. Easy to screw. The Micro:Bit can be bought from many places. As an option you can get two Grove modules for an immediate test: a linear pot and a I2C to 8 bits parallel port with Leds. If you do not have the Oleds, you can select the option to add the pair.
