This is a kit designed to let you explore wireless power transfer through magnetic resonant coupling! It consists of a transmit circuit, receive circuit, transmit and receive power coils to get started with, and detailed info about how to easily adapt the system to your particular needs. The basic kit has all parts necessary to power up a 1 watt LED from a range of distances. Additional options can be included which include a small receive PCB for (unregulated) DC loads and motors, as well as the option to get either the LED only setup or the DC motor setup as pre-soldered or just the parts to solder yourself.
I initially set out to find a simple way to transmit power wirelessly for my job as a marine engineer to power small systems underwater without the cost and reliability issues of sealed underwater connectors. Since I discovered how simple the concept of resonant power is, and just how cheaply it could be implemented, I decided why not make a kit to make it accessible to the maker and open hardware community? Thus my Kickstarter was born last year, and the kit began selling. Since then I have upgraded to a PCB design, making it simple and easy to solder the kit together, and cheap to get it pre-soldered. I have also developed receive board options, including rectified only, rectified and pulsed for motors, and soon will add an add on DC/DC converter to allow charging of USB devices!
This is the first kit that I know of for resonant wireless power transfer. There are a few products on the market that offer small inductive transmitters and receivers, but none that allow you to explore the capabilities of resonance. This allows you to power small devices like LED's and small motors from long distances, and more moderate power capability to power things like higher power motors, and USB chargeable devices at close ranges. Please note that this product is only intended for hobbyists and tinkerers to understand and use the technology for homebrew projects. Any commercial use requires licensing in accordance with patents currently put in place for wireless non radiative energy transfer.
