What is it?

The AEMBLINK is a board with a polycrystaline solar panel, AEM10941 solar harvesting PMIC, and a ultra low power LED blinking circuit based on Texas Instruments TPL5110. It features an 1.8V output to power your application with, for example a Bluetooth Low Energy Module. There is about 13x19mm area unused area on the board.

Why did you make it?

I designed it because I am already selling this and this solar harvesting boards and this time I wanted to design a cool gadget with ultra low power blinking circuit.

What makes it special?

• it charges in just 5 minutes of full sun, at 800W/m^2 solar irradiance
• it blinks for at least 8 hours, tested on 10 devices
• it harvests enough energy from indoor light (200 lux) to maintain blinking. It seems to work forever.
• The LED blinking circuit is ultra low power. Average current is ~10uA. The LED pulses are only 14ms long, long enough for our eyes and brains to perceive at full brightness and they have ~2 seconds blink interval, short enough to strongly draw attention. Highly efficient LEDs with large viewing angle were selected.
• the PCBA is wearable, light enough for an earring, but it can also be worn as a necklace or a badge
• it is a nice demonstrator for the AEM10941 solar harvesting PMIC from E-peas

What you get

• a fully assembled PCB including solar panel and super capacitor, a necklace, 2 pinch bail clasps and an earring hook to make it wearable.
• Option: Spray coated with insulating acrylic resin to protect against sweat.
• option: Poured in epoxy resin in a heart shape. Water proof and UV resistant.
• option: Poured in epoxy resin in a pyramid shape. Water proof and UV resistant.
