Op amps are essential components. There are very many models but their pinouts are very often the same. In order to be able to test them easily, this little tester can be used. It allows you to check the correct operation of single, double and quad Operational amplifiers. It is designed to be powered by 24 volt D.C and also can be powered with a lower voltage, or even with 2 x 9 volt batteries. The power supply is protected against short circuits, and 2 LEDs indicate the presence of positive and negative voltage. This makes it possible to detect amps having a short circuit on the power supplies. Each amp is mounted as an astable multi-vibrator driving a two-colour LED. If the amp is working, it flashes green and red at a frequency of around 2 Hz. To make a 'Virtual' ground, a power op-amp is used. This is replicated with a common op-amp tl081 or variant easy to find.

Testing an Op-amp

1. To test the op-amp simply insert it in the corresponding 40 pin zero insertion force socket.

2. Press the button. If it flashes for each amp, it's good.
