What is it?

The world's first independent YM2610(B) hardware VGM player, capable of playing all Neogeo game music, includes SDRAM controller and supports 8/16MB sample ROM.
OPNB MegaMod is a standard MegaGRRL music module that can be used with an unofficial upgrade package without any hardware modification.

Why did you make it?

The YM2610/B is an excellent music chip that includes multiple PCM channels, so its expressiveness far exceeds that of similar Yamaha FM chips. It is often used in SNK NeoGeo consoles and contains many excellent music works.

What makes it special?

Since the YM2610/B has an addressing space of up to 16MB and uses complex address/data bus multiplexing, its sampling memory control circuit is quite complicated. Here I use an Altera Max3000 CPLD as an SDRAM controller to emulate the YM2610 sampling ROM, so you can easily play all NeoGeo game music and some Taito arcade music.
There is no need to connect to a computer or host to play music. It can run and play independently. You only need to prepare a power cord and headphones.
