ToastyBoy is a redundant low-noise dual power supply capable of supplying 1.2A at 5V with a voltage ripple of a few millivolts. The low voltage ripple even at an ampere output current allows powering…

ToastyBoy features reverse polarity protection as well as two different input connectors. There a JST PH connector as well as a spring clamp WAGO connector. For the output there is a terminal block that allows access to both the filtered voltage and the individual power supplies.

The power supplies of ToastyBoy can be enabled or disabled separately by cutting a trace located on the bottom of the circuit board. In case of one power supply failure the other power supply can compensate for the defective one. Such redundancy is useful for critical applications such as powering electronics in rockets.

As of now this is an experimental device, and this is a small batch. Should this batch be sold out, I will make improvements to develop a circuit that can deliver more current. As of now this power supply can power a Raspberry Pi Zero recording video at 1080p 30fps without problem. It can output a maximum of continuous current of 1.2A enough to power two Raspberry Pi 4 shooting 1080p video. Be aware however that high output current will cause the device to heat up.

Make sure when selecting a battery to power the device that the battery voltage is adequate and that it can output enough current for your application.
