Use your single board computer (Raspberry Pi!) in the middle of nowhere! Here is a small, high quality, unit that will allow your Raspberry Pi or other, similar, SBC's to be operated from a battery, solar panel or similar sources of power when connection to a mains electricity supply is not possible or desirable. This opens up the possibility of using your SBC in the middle of a field if you so wish!
The module is a bare board, but using some or all of the four mounting holes it is easy to fit into your own custom enclosure if you wish. A small switch on the board allows the SBC to be powered down without having to remove any wiring or plugs - saving unnecessary wear and tear.
As well as converting battery power to the correct voltage for the Pi, it can also be connected directly to a low voltage transformer and convert AC power to the 5 volts DC required. The unit will convert any voltage between 8 and 35 volts D.C., or 7 and 28 volts A.C. to the 5 volts DC required and can supply up to 2.5 amps - more than enough for your SBC.
Connection of the power source to the converter is by a high quality screw terminal block, and connection to the SBC is by means of the standard USB 2.0 type A Male to USB 2.0 Micro type B Male cable (NOT supplied).
Note that at lower input voltages and/or higher output currents the module may become very warm during use. This is normal, but care should be taken to place it on a suitable heat resistant and non-conductive surface.
As with any electrical item of this type, the module should be located out of reach of unsupervised children.
