Note: This is for a fully assembled Harvester!
Harvester is a hand-held, portable live sampler that lets you make music with everyday sounds. With the instrument, you are able to capture sounds around you (your voice, another musical instrument, environmental noises etc.). The instrument provides an interface that lets you play back the sampled sound based around a musical, pentatonic scale. This allows for a wildly expressive sonic palette that can be used for musical performance and sound art installations.
I made it so I could make and play music without having to look at a screen. I was interested in creating an instrument that sourced material from its surroundings, and would enable me to move freely while musicing. I was curious on how to make an audio i/o interface for the Raspberry Pi, using Pure Data as the backend sound generator.
The Harvester is made especially for the curious seeking delight in music making. It's especially fun for non-musical/non-technical people who want to encounter digital/electronic music techniques in an accessible format. The designs and code are open source, and I'm actively seeking help in developing the platform, so please help, reach out, and contribute!
