48-channel SiRF-IV GP-2106 tiny GPS module with breakout and level shifter
This is an excellent SiRF-IV chipset based low-power and most importantly tiny GPS module. It measures only about 2cm x 0.5cm x 0.8cm, and weights about 3 grams.
They are overstock from another project and were originally bought at Sparkfun.
They are provided new and were only taken out of the original package to make sure they work together with the provided breakout board.
There are a limited amount of these available, so when they're gone they're gone! This item will not come back!
It is powered by 1.8V. In order to make it easier to use out of the box it is provided with a level shifter board which works fine with both 3.3V and 5V signals and supply. The level shifter board also contains a regulator to provide the 1.8V rail to the GPS module.
The module runs on 4800 baud 8n1. The module does support some configuration changes but all these require an NDA to get access the full specification. That being said, it is excellently useful by default without doing any configuration.

The behavior of the on/off pin is a bit weird but once you get it working it is fine. It requires a pulse of 100ms or more which can go either to low or to high to change the state to on or off.
There are multiple ways of using the pin. A first is to connect it to a button with a pull-down or pull-up, depending on which direction you want the pulse to go.
The second way is to use a micro-controller to drive the pin.
It is easy to verify in the micro-controller if the GPS was turned on or turned off.
On turn off it sends $PSRF150,0 on the output, on turn on it is $PSRF150,1.
Make sure the cable is connected in the same side on both sides, meaning the same side should be up when looking at the connector. The connector has a little latch. Raise the latch, then insert the cable, then lower the latch again. It should fit cleanly.
