3niti alpha simu1 is not a TRUE ternary computer, but more likely a stand-alone emulator of ternary computer based on binary microcontroller (PIC16F870) with TRUE ternary visualization (15 three-state red-green LEDs):
and TRUE ternary controls (15 three-state slide switches):
Switch 13 (W/R) - control input/output ternary switch:
P (top position) - using specified address write data to the memory (data lights display this 3-trit data) O (neutral position) - ignore address and data switches (data lights display data from memory address PC) N (bottom position) - ignore data switches and display data from specified address
Switch 14 (I/M) - control subprogram ternary switch:
P (top position) - interrupt main program, save current PC and jump to specified address O (neutral position) - do not disturb working program N (bottom position) - stop subprogram and restore PC to return to main program
Switch 15 (S/G) - control step/run ternary switch:
P (top position) - execute one step of the program O (neutral position) - pause mode N (bottom position) - run program from current position
Computer operates 3-trit words - triads. Each triad may hold 3^3=27 different values. Whole set of instructions of ternary computer "3niti alpha" are written on the board itself -for more info about it you can go to 3niti.org
Also you can read about it on Hackaday.io: 3niti alpha
By default you will get bare PCB board without any components, but you can choose to receive a KIT (PCB with set of component to solder) and even pre-assembled and fully tested "3niti alpha simu1".
Note: Latest firmware still doesn't utilize external serial memory - simulator in current state supports only TWO 27-triad memory pages (located inside of the PIC MCU) for ternary data and ternary code, but it's easily fixable in future when we will release a new firmware that could be loaded into the PIC through bootloader serial interface).
We recognize our top users by making them a Tindarian. Tindarians have access to secret & unreleased features.
We look for the most active & best members of the Tindie community, and invite them to join. There isn't a selection process or form to fill out. The only way to become a Tindarian is by being a nice & active member of the Tindie community!
TERNARY RESEARCH CORPORATION was incorporated in New York State in June 2012 and relocated to Colorado in September 2017. Our goal is to give a chance to balanced ternary electronics. Also we are selling some peripherals for retro computers as ZX-Spectrum.
Usually we ship on the next business day, but sometimes it could be a week or so if board is not yet fully assembled and/or tested.
