When laying out PCB boards, you usually insert ground plane or connect copper pour to ground. This improves noise immunity and system performance.
You know the importance of grounding very well. A lot of application notes also talk about this. Even in prototypes, people care about grounding all the time.However, when building circuits on bread board or PCB protoboard, you usually don't get a ground plane or a big piece of copper as ground. Instead, you fly wires everywhere.
Many components need to be connected to ground, but you never get a ground on bread board or conventional PCB protoboard.
