Read More…The ADS1115 16-bit Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) by Texas Instruments is a powerful tool that empowers electronics enthusiasts to convert real-world analog signals into digital data with remarkable accuracy. This breakout board is designed to make the ADS1115 easy to use and integrate into your DIY projects.
An ADC, or Analog-to-Digital Converter, bridges the gap between the analog and digital worlds, enabling you to transform real-world phenomena into digital data your projects can understand.
If you're using a Raspberry Pi, ESP32, or ESP8266 in your project you know how much of a hassle using analog devices can be. There is only one analog input on ESP microcontrollers (it's only 1V tolerant) and no analog inputs on the Raspberry Pi. This is where an ADC like the ADS1115 really shines, just wire it up with I2C and now you have very capable four analog pins to use in your project!
16-bit Accuracy: The ADS1115 offers 16-bit accuracy, providing significantly higher precision than most Arduino boards’ 8-bit ADCs.
Built-in Programmable Gain Amplifier: The onboard programmable gain amplifier (PGA) allows you to boost smaller signals up to the full range, making it easier to work with a wide range of sensors.
4-Channel Input: The ADS1115 breakout board features four single-ended input channels or two differential channels, making it easy to connect to analog sensors.
I2C Interface: Interfacing with the ADS1115 is simple thanks to its I2C interface. The address can be changed to one of four options, allowing you to connect up to four ADS1115s on a single 2-wire I2C bus for up to 16 single-ended inputs.
With its high accuracy, programmable gain amplifier, and multiple input channels, the ADS1115 Breakout Board is an essential tool for any electronics enthusiast looking to elevate their analog sensing capabilities.
Want to control the volume on your Raspberry Pi with a volume knob like we did? Use an ADS1115, we'll even show you how to do it, step by step.
Need to measure voltage for your bare bones DIY oscilloscope or multimeter? Use an ADS1115.
Need to monitor the voltage of your battery-powered project but don't want a power hungry device to measure it? Use an ADS1115.
Want to control the volume on your Raspberry Pi with a volume knob like we did? Use an ADS1115, we'll even show you to do it in an upcoming Instructable.
The ADS1115 is designed for simplicity:
Plug and Play: Connect the ADS1115 to your Raspberry Pi, Arduino, or ESP board via I2C, and you'll be capturing data within minutes.
Well Documented: The ADS1115 is a very popular ADC and there are a wealth of tutorials and example code online to help you get started with your projects.
