Configum is a small (1x1") and highly integrated chip, which you can insert into a standard PLCC-68 socket on your board, and enjoy a full FPGA system with a central core, DDR memory, non-volatile storage, external interface, and power supply. Within one square inch of space you get a Spartan 6 FPA with 14,579 logic cells, 64Mb DDR, micro-SD card holder, 24MHz oscillator, 8-bit configurable ADC/DAC/IO port, JTAG functionality, four debug LEDs, a small reset button, and even able to supply external board circuitry with 3.3V power.
Initially made for implementation into a specific embedded system, I realised later that it can be used in a much more wide spectrum of projects - from industrial control to soft core computing systems to specialised data and video processing. Configum is designed to operate in low-power environment, which makes it also very suitable for all kind of robotic projects, where the traditional microcontroller approach is failing due to some reason.
It provides unparalleled integration and a carefully selected set of functions to cover the widest area of potential projects where it can be used. Nothing else can offer the same functionality/cost/size ratio. There is a number of FPGA platforms on the market now. Configum is like all of them, just smaller, thinner, lighter, better.
