DIY version of the #IoT Octopus 🐙 plus a traffic light based CO2 alert aka CO2-Ampel #CO2Ampel

Comes with PCB and parts like LEDs, resistors and grove connectors including CO2 sensor (SCD30) & nodeMCU V2.

With a little soldering, you will get it running!

Why did you make it?

Many asked for a pre-packaged kit of parts - here we go!

To help schools during COVID19 to ventilate classrooms, which reduces the number of potential infected aerosols. This is a great DIY project for pupils/students to learn about STEM/MINT. This is not a life-saving, nor a medical device, as a kit it comes without any certification.

Fresh and safe at work

The octopus set works perfectly, quick delivery and assembling was not difficult. The documentation was sufficient, although the slides could use a little finetuning. All together I am completely happy and the sensor is running at my desk, ensuring a safe and fresh indoor air!

Great Product with good documentation

The Co2 traffic light was purchased to learn about Arduino as well get to experience the ecosystem. The documentation (pdf and Youtube) makes soldering very easy. The various modules on GitHub give you a quick code base to test the traffic light with. From there it is easy to extend the functions and adapt them to your own needs.

CO2 Ampel Projekt mit dem Octopus + SCD30 + Nodemcu V2

Ich habe mir als bastel Projekt aus den Komponenten einen CO2 + Luftfeuchtigkeit Sensor gebaut, zur Optimierung der Raumluft in meinem Home Office. (durch Lüften und befeuchten)
Die Idee ist mir basierend auf einem Bericht bei heise.de gekommen.

Auf YouTube gibt es zu dem Ampel Projekt auf dem Channel der "IoT-Werkstatt UCB" sehr detaillierte und leicht verständliche Schritt für Schritt Anleitungen um in die Thematik einzusteigen. (Hardware + Software Erklärungen)

Das Octopus Board habe ich mit Pin Sockets erweitert um den Nodemcu und den SCD30 Sensor streckbar zu machen, um für Zukünftige Änderungen flexibler zu sein.
Die Programmierung mit der Grafischen Software Ardublock ist sehr einfach zu verstehen ( zusätzlich dank der Youtube Videos) und ist der perfekte einstieg um sich später direkt im C Code zurecht zu finden. Was mir dann auch recht gut gelang, den es war notwendig eine alternative Bibliothek für meinen LCD Display einzubinden.

Ich habe meinen Raumluftüberwachung dank des eingebauten WLAN Moduls mit meinem Router verbunden und sende nun die Messergebnisse an einen Cloud Service. So kann ich mir direkt am Smartphone die Werte u.a. über eine App/Widget grafisch darstellen.

Im Webshop des Herstellers der Nodemcu habe ich mir für mein Projekt noch einen LCD Display gekauft um zukünftig die Messwerte direkt am Gerät sehen zu können. Die Deutschen Handbücher zur MCU oder dem Display sind dort als Kostenfreier Download in deutsch verfügbar.

Als weiterführendes Projekt wurde ein WLAN Switch gekauft so das ich direkt über den Luftfeuchtigkeitsgehalt mein Raumluftbefeuchter an und ausschalten kann.

Fazit, das Hardware Bundle ist ein super leichter einstig in die Welt der Microcontroler und Programmierung.
Die Umfangreiche (deutsche) Dokumentation im Netz macht es noch viel leichter. Danke IOT Werkstatt
Es hat mir diesen Bereich näher gebracht und die große Verfügbarkeit an Sensoren und Aktoren welche noch zusätzlich angesteuert werden können, lässt mir viel Spielraum für weitere Projekte. ( Stichwort Home Automatisation :-))

Usefull tool that ist fun to build

I use the Octopus in my doctors's office for monitoring the air-quality and it is a great help. Prenvents you from freezing and adjusts your judegement of when you need to open the windows. Guido helped me to modify the setup with a Grove V 2.0 LCD and a Neopixel Ring (in this case you need to lower the brightness to prevent the board from frying). I recommend to solder quick-fit connectors onto the board so that you can replace the Nodemcu in case of damage and re-use the SCD30. Very good project - keep going! I would encourage the thought of a bullet-proof documentation for bloody Arduino-beginners as I am.
