This low voltage H-Bridge driver board utilizes the efficient and compact DRV8838 from Texas Instruments. This tiny board is designed to control brushed DC motors, solenoids and other small inductive loads with minimum control interface requirements. The easy to use phase (PH) and enable (EN) interface lines allow complete control over the motor direction, including coast, brake, reverse and forward, while speed of the motor can be controlled by applying a PWM to the enable input. An active low sleep input can be used to put the device into shutdown mode to conserve power if needed. Each of the three separate interface control lines have a weak pull down resistor (100k ohms) to ground.
The logic supply (VCC) supports 1.8V to 7V while the VM supply can handle 0V to 11V and can be applied or removed in any order. When the VCC supply is removed, the device enters a low-power state and draws very little current from the VM supply. The VM voltage supply does not have any undervoltage-lockout protection (UVLO) so as long as VCC > 1.8V; the internal device logic remains active, which means that the VM pin voltage can drop to 0V. However, the load cannot be sufficiently driven at low VM voltages.
The DRV8838 features built-in safety measures and is fully protected against VCC undervoltage, overcurrent, and over temperature events. Note: The VCC and VM pins can be connected together if the supply voltage is between 1.8V and 7V. The board does not have reverse polarity protection, so please check your connections.
