This is a 40W Power LED driver, in order to power and drive one or more LEDs, ideally in a strip. Like for Glighter-S, the Glighter Ametista module includes some of features that I consider important in one small driver, such as wide input voltage capability, fail-safe feature, size and digital/analog control. But now with more power.
The connectors and controls are kept the same, with minimum footprint: just the control, power supply and the output of the LED. The single pin control can be used to combine analog and digital dimming together.
Can be driven from any 3.3V or 5V or higher logic, with analog and PWM signals, allowing precise light adjust level, customizable with lumen stability of the LED down to 1%* and below. With an overall consumption of 400nA in standby, is well suited for battery powered devices which are requiring high efficiency during operation and low quiescent current in standby.
Due to the high input voltage range up to 40V, with full current of 1000 mA, can be used to power up big LED based luminaires and also being powered with battery packs with not intermediate voltage conversion, keeping the efficiency at maximum levels. The parts sold are designed to deliver maximum 605 mA, to maintain compatibility with most power LEDs. A customization is possible under request, or can be done by changing a resistor.
Lower maximum currents can be achieved by limiting the control voltage at the input - see below.

Input control methods: ANALOG and PWM
Control frequency PWM: 3 kHz for 10:1 digital contrast ratio. 400 Hz for 100:1 digital contrast ratio. 180 Hz for 200:1 digital contrast ratio.
Analog contrast ratio: up to 4.5:1. Can be multiplied with the abovementioned digital contrast ratio.
Low output current switching noise: on-board filtering to a further reduction of 9 dB (Tested with LXW8-PW40 LED at 600mA)
This driver is smaller and rely on a hysteretic technology. This means that the controller is simple therefore more robust. The hysteretic higher output ripple, which may happen by design, is filtered out almost completely, obtaining a Lux and output current variation well within 1%.
The control system adds the analog capability to vary the LED current, thus allowing to experiment with light calibration systems, truly flicker-free light sources. If a CCT (Correlated Color Temperature) is a concern or the hardware is not capable to generate linear control voltages, the PWM capability gives the most help here.
Also, the input voltage is now extended to 40V maximum. The minimum shall be greated than the LED string forward voltage by 3V. The driver is sold with output current maximum up tp 605mA, but can be customized up to 1000 mA.
The disadvantage here is the switching frequency which can vary since it is dependent on the circuit configuration and its parameters. Since it is hysteretic, it will depends on the supply voltage and LED voltage. The PCB layout and output filtering allow to get an output ripple current within 1% of the nominal voltage, thus reducing further intereference from the LED strings.
A slow PWM frequency can increase the contrast ratio, while this quantity can be extended with the combination of analog dimming. An indication of the CR vs PWM frequency is shown here below (driving a string which requires around 9V, with the inductor used). With analog and digital control, up to 900:1 of contrast ratio can be achieved. In the picture only the digital CR is shown, hence that number shall be multiplied with the analog contrast ratio, if used.
In case a fixed switching frequency must be used, the Glighter-S is suggested.
