A really smart product idea for I2C based panel controls.
For I2CEncoder V2.1 Connect rotary encoder on I2C bus
My units are V2.1 which do have some features that I was looking for such as relative / absolute steps and programmable interrupt source.
My original use for these was a simple I2C addressable encoder interface but these offer much more...
The first added bonus is the full programmability of LEDS. These are great for user feedback.
The second bonus is three extra I/O pins which can individually be used as inputs, PWM o/p and 8 bit analogue input. The analogue input feature is a real bonus as I also have a need for reading some 10K ohm panel potentiometers.
The physical footprint is really small and the connector layout lends itself to easy daisy chaining.
And finally, they are ok for 3.3 and 5 volts with a low idle current (<2mA) that will allow me to create a persistent panel even when the rest of the system is powered off by using a single 18650 battery.
As part of a persistence philosophy you can also store values in the on-board addressable EEPROM which has two banks or 128 bytes.
If you are making any form of control panel which features rotary controls with, or without, LED feedback then this is the best solution that I know of.
I am going to order some more soon for sure.

Really well produced item

I am glad I did, because I will make use of the extra two for sure.
These are really well produced items and the documentation is spot on.
I had a small issue with getting the correct data from the joypad, but it turned out not to be the joypad, but the connected hardware.
I did write a mail to Simone before discovering that and the response was there the day after, explaining that the problem I encountered had been tested and could not be reproduced, so it had to be something other than the jaypad - and it was.
Very good service - I highly recommend this item.
