If you would like a neat little ring modulator and want to give your SMD soldering a refresher or you are new to surface mount soldering, this is the right project for you.
The ring modulator has a small number of surface mount parts including two SOIC packages. So if you are new to surface mount, it is a great way to get started.
This is a PCB and Panel set only. A set of 1 high quality PCB and 1 front panel ONLY are included. You will need to purchase your own components and build your own module. Comprehensive build instructions and BOMs are provided to help you source the components needed and we even provide links to shopping carts to simplify sourcing those components. Some product photos above show COMPLETED build.
Ring Modulation Tips and Tricks
This is a compact Dual Ring Modulator (4-quadrant multiplier) for your Eurorack modular synth.
A tiny, low cost module, leaving you with funds and space for more comprehensive modules.
Comprehensive manuals, parts lists and component shopping carts are provided in the documentation link for building, testing and using the module.
If you would like some practice, we recommend This SMD Beginner's kit and Tutorial or A More Advanced Kit and Tutorial to learn the techniques and sharpen your skills.
To get started with this module, run a 200Hz sine wave directly from a VCO into the Y input and another sine wave into the X input from a Keyboard/VCO/ADSR/VCA patch. Patch the output to your mixer or output module and play notes on the keyboard while adjusting the tuning of the two VCOs. Then you can experiment with other waveforms and patches.
Thanks to Randy Piscione for going above and beyond four quadrants to show us all that is possible with ring modulation:
